Kingman is the county seat of Mohave County (since 1887). It is named after Lewis Kingman, a civil engineer. Kingman is located approximately 105 miles southeast of Las Vegas, Nevada and about 165 miles northwest of the state capital, Phoenix.
Andy Devine (1905–1977), an actor, born in Flagstaff and raised in Kingman, where his father opened the Beale Hotel. One of the major streets of Kingman is named “Andy Devine Avenue” and the town holds the annual “Andy Devine Days”.
Mohave County, named for Fort Mojave, is in the northwestern corner of Arizona. As of the 2020 census, its population was 213,267. The county seat is Kingman, and the largest city is Lake Havasu City. It is the fifth largest county in the United States (by area).
Mohave County contains parts of Grand Canyon National Park and Lake Mead National Recreation Area and all of the Grand Canyon–Parashant National Monument. The Kaibab, Fort Mojave and Hualapai Indian Reservations also lie within the county.
